Two preconditions

  • To use these instructions you must be in a location where the eduroam Wi-Fi network is available.
  • To succesfully logon to the eduroam network you need to have your personal and valid eduroam credentials consisting out of a username (such as xxxxx@edu.nl) and the associated password.

eduroam iPhone - Configuration steps

  1. Make sure Wi-Fi is turned on. Start by clicking the "Settings" button on your Iphone then "Wi-Fi". You should see a toggle button stating if Wi-Fi is on or off.
  2. Select the "eduroam" Wi-Fi network in the list of available networks.
  3. Enter your username, e.g. "0123456@edu.nl".
  4. Enter the associated password and click "Join" in the right top corner.
  5. You will be asked to trust a TERENA SSL CA certificate for "guest.surfnet.nl", click "Accept" to trust this certificate.
  6. You will be returned to your device's "Wi-Fi Networks" screen. A tick beside "eduroam" should show that you are now connected to the secure wireless eduroam network.

Step 1.

Make sure Wi-Fi is turned on. You can check or set this by by clicking the "Settings" button on your iPhone and then click "Wi-Fi". You should see a toggle button stating if Wi-Fi is on or off.


Step 2.

Select the "eduroam" Wi-Fi network in the list of available networks.


Step 3.

You will see a new screen with multiple (empty) input fields


Step 4.

Enter your username, e.g. "0123456@edu.nl".


Step 5.

Enter the associated password. Leave the "Mode" selection value on "Automatic" and finally click "Join" in the right top corner.


Step 6.

You will be asked to trust a TERENA SSL CA certificate for "guest.surfnet.nl", click "Accept" to trust this certificate.


Step 7.

You will be returned to your device's "Wi-Fi Networks" screen. A tick beside "eduroam" and a mini Wi-Fi icon on top of the screen should show that you are now connected to the secure wireless eduroam network.
